Magnetic Particles for Protein Purification
A number of strategies can be used to achieve the isolation and separation of proteins, which can be used in almost all areas of bioscience and biotechnology. Recently, the development and application of magnetic separation technology using magnetic particles have attracted increasing attention. Magnetic separation technology presents several advantages compared to the standard procedure, mainly due to the simple process and fewer steps required. Operationally, there is no additional need for liquid chromatographic systems, centrifuges, filters, or other equipment. This process can be carried out directly within one test tube or one vessel. Due to the magnetism of magnetic adsorbents and the diamagnetism of most contaminating molecules and particles present in the treated samples, particles can be easily and selectively removed from the samples. Also, magnetic separation technology is the basis of various automated procedures, especially the immunoassay system based on magnetic particles. This is used for the determination of various analytes, including proteins and peptides.
Here we summarize the different products that can be used to separate and purify target proteins and peptides with the help of magnetic particles.
