Hepatitis Virus Antigens and Antibodies for Screening and Diagnosis
Viral hepatitis is a serious infection that causes liver inflammation and damage. In the United States, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C are the most common, meanwhile, most impactful viruses to public health. New and acute viral hepatitis infection cases have risen dramatically in recent years. Beginning from 2014 to 2018, the rate of hepatitis A increased by 850%, hepatitis B increased by 11%, and acute hepatitis C increased by 71% (CDC, 2020). With years of production experience in antigens and antibodies, Creative Diagnostics can now provide various hepatitis virus antigen and antibody reagents for multiple applications to support institutional and industrial research.
Hepatitis A virus (HAV), or Hepatovirus A, is a member of the viral family Picornaviridae that uses humans or vertebrates as its natural hosts. Globally, HAV achieves about 1.4 million symptomatic cases per year and is the cause of Hepatitis A (formerly known as infectious hepatitis, an acute infectious disease of the liver).
Hepatitis B virus, abbreviated HBV, is a species of the genus Orthohepadnavirus, likewise a part of the Hepadnaviridae family. HBV is the cause of hepatitis B disease, and as far as known, HBV is only susceptible to infecting human beings and primates.
Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a member of the Flaviviridae family, genus Hepacivirus. HCV has been thought to be the only member of this genus until other members were found recently. HCV causes hepatitis C, a liver disease that can ultimately result in liver cirrhosis, hepatic failure, or hepatocellular carcinoma.
