The imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine motif is a key structural feature present in a wide variety of biologically active natural compounds and commercially available synthetic drugs such as zolpidem (a hypnotic drug), zolimidine (an antiulcer drug), alpidem (an anxiolytic agent), and loprinone (a cardiotonic agent). The imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine moiety is also present in drug such as GLPG-1690 (drug for the treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosison, Phase 3).[1]
A series of medicinal products containing a imidazo[1,2-a]pyridines skeleton has been firmly incorporated in medical practice.
