The American Peptide Symposium is a biennial event organized by the American Peptide Society, a nonprofit scientific and educational organization dedicated to advancing and promoting knowledge of the chemistry and biology of peptides. The 26th American Peptide Symposium will be held on June 22 to 27, 2019 in Monterey, CA.
We invite you to visit us at our Booth #39: we are excited to meet with you, learn your needs for peptides and discuss how Bachem can assist to advance your research.
Oxytocin is a neurohypophysial hormone, which was first identified for its important function in stimulating uterine contraction and milk let down after birth. During the last decades it became evident that oxytocin not only has an impact on social and bonding behaviors related to reproduction and care for offspring, but also has an effect on a variety of other behaviors such as anxiety and reward-related feeding.
Oxytocin first entered the pharmaceutical market in 1980 as Pitocin¢ç and Syntocinon¢ç. In the field of women¢¥s health, these drugs are still used today for labor induction and for the treatment of post-partum hemorrhage. Oxytocin is also of interest for treating a wide range of diseases and disorders such as autism spectrum disorders (ASD), addictive disorders, diabetes and obesity. Currently, there are oxytocin and oxytocin derived drug candidates in clinical development for various indications.
This month's highlights include news about synthetic peptides that target toxic amyloid ¥â-peptide oligomers in Alzheimer¢¥s disease, the development of an arsenic-peptide complex to target cancer, intranasal oxytocin administration as a potential treatment for alcoholism, and a novel therapeutic target for atherosclerosis.
